What I Bought/Might Buy/Still Need to Buy for Baby #2

When we found out we were expecting another baby, I was hoping we wouldn’t have too much to buy since it hadn’t been that long since we’d had a newborn. I started making a list of what we would need and what we already had and was pleasantly surprised to find I was right- we didn’t need to buy all that much, and a lot of what I wanted to buy wasn’t exactly “necessary” lol. Fast forward to now when it’s almost go-time and I have a nice list of what we’ve actually purchased, what I might purchase, and what I am probably going to purchase but haven’t yet. Bought:

Diapers- We love Pampers Swaddlers. It took me a long time to figure out what worked best for Maverick when he was little so we’re just going to stick to these for Hazel.

Wipes- We have been using WaterWipes for 2 years now but I can’t use them on Mav’s face or he breaks out in a rash. I decided I’d look for an alternative and tried out the HelloBello wipes and so far we’ve been loving them! They don’t break his face out and I like that they pull the next wipe up from the package so it’s easier to grab, unlike the WaterWipes. 

Clothes- I bought H some girly clothes so she wouldn’t ONLY be wearing big bros hand-me-downs lol. Most came from a children’s consignment shop (Kid’s Market), but others are from Target and Walmart

Bedside bassinet- I got this one from Kid’s Market for $30, originally $230 lol. I have no idea how it will work out or if we will even like it but it’s got wheels and a fold down side which is what I wanted to try this time so we shall see!

New monitor- With Maverick we had the Owlet and I cannot tell you how anxiety inducing it was for me. I already had RAGING postpartum anxiety revolving around sleep which is why we wanted to try the Owlet in the first place- so I could maybe rest a little knowing he was still breathing. Well. His foot was so tiny that the sensor would slip off multiple times a night, prompting it to alert us and scare the bejeezus out of me. I was convinced he was dying pretty much every night. I know plenty of people that love it and never had a problem but it was not for me. All that to say, this time we went with the Nanit. I liked the idea of not having a sensor on her body, just letting the camera pick up her breathing by reading the movement of the dots that are on the special breathing band/clothing/swaddle you can get. Will update with how we like it!

Car camera- We’ve been using an old school mirror which has worked totally fine for 2 years. The only things I didn’t love were that Derek couldn’t see him without turning around when we were on car trips (I always drive), and I couldn’t see him well if the sun was glaring- or at all if it was dark/nighttime. All our friends use cameras instead of mirrors so we got one! We’ve already installed it and so far I really like it. Derek can see him too, and its a very clear picture. It’ll take me a bit to get used to looking at the screen on my dash instead of into my rearview mirror to see him but I’ll get over it.

Might Buy:

New diaper pail- We were given a hand-me-down pail for Mav and it's been great but I don’t think it'll hold a billion NB diapers plus Mav’s diapers so we’re looking at a second one. I found this one and like the idea of it.

Boon trove- I have a haakaa and it worked nicely for collecting a little bit of extra milk during letdowns but I had a hard time keeping it on, keeping it from being kicked off, keeping it from spilling or leaking- etc. So, might try this cause it fits nicely inside your nursing bra.

Silverette nipple covers- My poor nips were destroyed in the beginning and these are HIGHLY recommended by just about everyone so if I have issues again, I’ll be purchasing these.

More burp cloths- I prefer the cloth diaper kind and we still have all the ones we had for Mav so I may not need more, but they’re on my list just in case lol.

Need to Buy:

New nursing bras- The girls are bigger than they were the first time and my old bras don’t fit this time, so I’ll be buying new ones. Maybe just a bigger size of the type I already have? I haven’t decided yet, but I really liked this style last time.

New sound machine- We swear by sound machines in this household, so H will need her own for when she moves to her room (which won’t be for a while). Gunna go with this one to match her monitor and also because we can take it with us as a travel sound only monitor since it alerts to crying which is super handy. 

Nail trimmer pads- Babies nails grow soooo fast and they scratch their faces a ton which kills me. I cant use the trimmer on Maverick anymore but I for sure will for H so I need some of the newborn/little one replacement pads.
