Progress is my Favorite Thing!
Hi Friends!I thought I'd give you a little life update today. Derek and I were going to go hiking this weekend but since it has been so rainy, we decided to just chill at home. We watched Moana, which was AMAZING. Seriously, 10/10 would recommend. We ordered pizza and just generally chilled all weekend. I have decided it is finally time to continue the remodeling of the house. Next up will be the kitchen. We went and looked at paint chips, and I chose a cream color to paint our cabinets (currently a very generic wood color), and an olive-y green for the walls. The entire kitchen is just shades of brown and it is terrible. I also need to pick a new backsplash because they did a garbage job installing the one we currently have, plus it clashes BAD with the counter. I want to get a mountable black microwave with an exhaust vent to put above our range. It'll free up so much counter space and really help the aesthetic of the room. I'm planning on carrying the green into our dining room, which is currently also green, just a baby food pea green. (ew.) I think the whole process will cost less than $500 including the microwave, but it depends on my cost for the backsplash and the cabinet hardware I want to install. I'm planning on doing it all myself, and before you ask, YES I have researched painting cabinets, and YES I know there is a process to it. :) I can handle it. Plus, it's all just paint. If its hideous, I will do it again.Once I finish the kitchen and dining room, I'll move on to the bathrooms. Or maybe the den. I'd really love to paint it, too, as it is also a shade of brown. I also want to reface the fireplace and add crown molding in there. The bathrooms will take the most work. I'll be replacing the counters, all fixtures, floors, painting the vanity cabinets, replacing lighting and either framing or replacing the mirrors. We also need a new roof on the house. I imagine once all the updates are done, we will be able to sell the house for more than we paid. That is the goal, anyways. I'm excited. I love this kind of stuff. Now, all we need is some money to get it all done lol. Yay adulting! I'll probably post pictures or videos when I actually get to the remodeling step. I'd like to be able to look back on them when I'm old and see what I used to be capable of. Hahah!I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer so far! We are liking the heat some days, but lately its been raining almost every single day. Also, I had no idea that Georgia would have worse mosquitos than Alabama. Seriously, it is unbearable to be outside sometimes, simply from being eaten alive. Not loving that, but also not into the outdoors enough to coat myself in bug spray everyday. I am excited to go home to Huntsville for a few days here soon. Derek will be off on a fun bachelor party weekend for Jamie, so the girls and I are going home to visit the grandparents and hopefully see a few friends! It's hard to believe it is almost July. Derek's birthday, Aubs birthday, Jamie's bachelor party, AND Kendall's bachelorette party are all in July. So fun! Yay summer! Do any of you have any house projects scheduled? Or any fun plans this summer? Let me know in the comments!Love, Jess
