Newlywed Menu Ideas

Feeding ourselves has been one of the most challenging decisions of our newlywed lives. We are probably lucky in that aspect, but it still has made some things quite difficult. So, today I decided to compile a list of the things we have been making. Some are healthy, some are easy, some I'd barely even consider meals. I thought at the very least, it would make for an interesting read. :)Breakfasts:Derek and I don't eat breakfast together because we go in to work at different times. D will have chocolate Poptarts, bagels with cream cheese, or nothing and eat at the cafeteria at work when he gets there. I will have blueberry Poptarts, bagels with cream cheese, overnight oats (I'll be trying these for the second time, because I used the wrong oats for the first batch and they were inedible...), guacamole on rye bread, greek yogurt with dark chocolate chips, or fruit. Sometimes if we have leftover pancakes, I'll eat those. Breakfast foods are some of my favorite things to eat, but most days, I just need something I can either eat in the car, or take with me to eat at work. The simpler, the better.Lunch:Derek usually takes a turkey sandwich, chips, and some fruit for lunch. If we have leftovers from dinner the night before, he will take that, or he will eat at the cafeteria at work, or go out to lunch with Alex if it's a Friday. I come home for lunch every day to let the girls out to go potty. Then I'll scarf some food and head back to work. Again, the faster and simpler, the better for me at this time of day. I like to make a refried bean and shredded cheese burrito and heat that up in the microwave to melt the cheese and heat up the beans real quick. If Derek didn't take the leftovers from dinner, or if there were enough for us both, I'll eat those. Sometimes I get some bagel bites, or other frozen meal things like an Amy's meal.Snacks:Derek loves Takis- those super hot Cheeto type chip things. He also gets bags of chips out of the vending machine at work. We both love our Pretzel Chips and hummus, grilled pimento cheese sandwiches, or fruit. I will often have Goldfish, or just wait for dinner.Dinner:This is the hardest part. I find it difficult to even think about food when I finally get home from work, and D has usually just had a snack, and isn't hungry. This means we wait til around 8:30 or 9pm to eat dinner. Our meals range from hamburger helper, to frozen corndogs, to grilled chicken with green beans and brown rice. It just depends on how tired we are and how much we feel like cooking. Here's a list of some other things we eat for dinner: Stoffers lasagna, frozen hamburger patties, mac and cheese, spaghetti, pork tenderloin, salt rubbed potatoes, canned or frozen veggies, salads, chicken nuggets, pizza, Bertolli ravioli or tortellini with alfredo sauce etc. It's not usually very healthy, and I really want to change that. It just takes advanced planning and then a well thought out shopping trip, and I just don't have the energy for that most of the time. I'm making this sound like I'm some old decrepit lump of uselessness, but I really just don't feel like doing much of anything by the time I get home from work hahah. Derek has usually already been home for about 45 min so he's had time to veg for a while. I need some time too, and by the time I've recovered, it's already almost 8pm. I have all these amazing recipes pinned on Pinterest that I'd love to try, at some point. Maybe when I'm retired. :)Anyways, I hope this helped you realize you aren't the only one who still eats like a child, or maybe it gave you a few extra meal ideas to add to your rotation during the week. What kinds of things do you eat? Got any good recipes? Love, Jess
