Two Dogs in a Townhouse
This post is dedicated to our furbabies, Aurora and Luna. They have had an interesting few months adjusting to life in our new townhouse. We have to share our side yard with all of the neighborhood dogs, as it is the community potty ground. We have had to walk them on a leash to potty, and pick up their poop. They don't have a fenced yard or anywhere to run and play anymore. We have tried to come up with ways to keep them happy and entertained, so I thought I would let you guys know, in case you are in the same boat.Every morning before I leave for work after I let them out the first time, I put quite a few treats in 2 separate treat balls. They are entertained by those while I am away, but not the whole time. I often come home to destruction. I have started putting my office trashcan in the bathroom, and I make sure every table and counter downstairs is cleaned off. We also close every door upstairs. This helps cut down on the amount of trash I have to clean up. When I come home from lunch, they get a few minutes of attention, and get to go out and potty. I've started running from the dog poop trashcan on the other side of the yard, all the way to our front door when I'm done cleaning up the poop. They like those short bursts of energy after napping all morning.Derek lets them out again when he gets home and then we play with them some when I get home. Usually its either tag or fetch inside. I really wish we had a dog park close by but they are all too far and by the time we got there after work, it would be dark. We try to walk them down our road for exercise at least a few times a week but it depends on the weather. Lately it has been pouring every single day. Aurora has taken to racing around in a circle around the living room, trying to make Luna chase her. We refer to this as "the zoomies". Luna does not understand the game so she usually grabs a toy and kinda stands in one spot while Rora goes back and forth around the outside of the big couch. It shakes the whole house, and they broke a lamp last Friday, but I just think its too funny/fun to watch to stop it. Plus, it IS good exercise because they both get worn out in a few minutes. I want to get a few more brain stimulating toys for them here in the next few weeks. I know Luna misses her Frisbee days, but her teeth were getting so worn down from it that we decided to stop. One day they'll have a big huge yard again and I can't wait! Do you have any fun dog toys or ways to keep your pups busy indoors? I'd love to know!Love, Jess
